The Bureau of Land Management will be offering 14 adult horses, 14 yearling horses, and 12 burros for adoption at the Butte County Fairgrounds in Gridley on April 5 and 6. The animals will be available for preview on April 4 and adoptions will begin with a silent auction on April 5 from 9 to 10 a.m. The adoption fee is $125 and the animals are healthy, vaccinated, and ready to train.
Adopters must be at least 18 years old and have facilities that meet BLM requirements. The BLM is responsible for managing wild horses and burros on public lands, and periodically removes animals from the range when populations exceed established levels. These animals are then made available for adoption to private ownership. More information can be found on the BLM Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Program website.
The horses and burros available for adoption have been vaccinated against common equine diseases and have complete health care records. The adoption event gate opens at 8 a.m. on April 5, with adoptions continuing until 5 p.m. that day and from 8 a.m. to noon on April 6. The goal is to find suitable homes for these animals and ensure they are well cared for by responsible adopters.
