Wild Horse Weanlings from Idaho’s Public Rangelands Available for Adoption at Idaho Horse Expo

Wild horses from the Sands Basin and Four Mile Wild Horse Herd Management Areas in Idaho will be available for adoption at the Idaho Horse Expo this weekend, with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and University of Idaho Extension 4-H program collaborating on the initiative. The horses have been handled by 4-H youth and will be up for adoption on Sunday, April 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ford Idaho Horse Park in Nampa, Idaho.

Individuals interested in adopting a wild horse must be at least 18 years old and have facilities that meet BLM requirements. After the federal government holds the title for a year, adopters can apply for the title. The BLM Idaho Wild Horse and Burro program, in partnership with the University of Idaho 4-H and BLM Wild Horse Training Program, has been working on this initiative since 2009.

For more information on the Idaho Horse Expo happening this weekend, visit the BLM Idaho Facebook page. This is a unique opportunity to adopt a young wild horse weanling from Idaho’s public rangelands, with the horses having been handled by 4-H youth as part of the adoption program.
