Unveiling the Future: North Elba Showgrounds and Athletic Fields Master Plan

The North Elba Horse Showgrounds and athletic fields master plan was presented to the public at an open house, outlining new buildings, renovations, and improvements. The plan includes renovating the Long Building, adding new buildings, and enhancing the athletic fields area with amenities like a picnic pavilion and indoor sports building. Public feedback was gathered at the open house, with strong support for rebuilding the Long Building, restoring the Olympic Cauldron, and other aesthetic improvements.

The master plan was developed in partnership with SE Group, a Vermont-based planning consultant firm, and gathered input from the community through surveys and meetings with stakeholders. The plan includes suggestions for new buildings, improvements to trails, landscaping, signage, and accessibility. Public feedback is still being collected, with a deadline for input set for January 30. The plan aims to enhance the showgrounds and athletic fields for year-round use and community events.

Town Supervisor Derek Doty expressed the importance of investing in the showgrounds and athletic fields to sustain economic impact in the area. The plan includes projects like a pump track, indoor sports building, and interpretive promenade for the Olympic Cauldron. The goal is to create a space that can be used for various events, gatherings, and activities, catering to the needs and desires of the community.
