Dr. Frances Peat, a leading equine vet, will be presenting at the Racing Victoria Veterinary Seminar alongside other experts to discuss preparing, racing, or spelling younger horses. Dr. Peat has a background in pre-sale X-ray imaging and has conducted extensive research on over 2,700 yearlings at the Keeneland Sale in Kentucky. Her love of horses began at a young age, influenced by her grandfather’s passion for racing.
Dr. Peat’s involvement in the thoroughbred industry started with working at the yearling sales for New Zealand Bloodstock and trainer Jamie Graham. She later joined the MVS practice and conducted research on the correlation between pre-sales X-rays and future racing performance. Her research focused on sesamoid bones and stifle joints, aiming to provide practical information for the industry.
Dr. Peat’s presentation at the seminar will summarize the key findings of her research, which is the largest study on the subject to date. The research aimed to provide valuable insights for buying and selling yearlings without being deterred by minor X-ray findings. Her work has practical implications for the thoroughbred training and breeding industries.
