The University of Lynchburg equestrian team narrowly lost to Sweet Briar in a road meet at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center. Despite tying on team score, the Vixens claimed victory by topping the Hornets in raw score, 849-842. Lynchburg had previously defeated Sweet Briar 7-3 in their last outing, but this time the two teams split their affairs for the 2024-25 season.
Lynchburg took an early 3-2 edge after the fences, with Fallyn Belcastro, Lucy Metzler, and Maddy Rubin producing scores of 84-or-better to snag team points. In the flat, the Vixens took the advantage with two scores of 92 by Isabelle Mesiarik and Maggie Booth. Lynchburg’s Metzler and Zemp also notched scores in the 90s and claimed team points, but it was not enough to overcome Sweet Briar’s raw score victory.
Next up for the NCEA squad will be a meet against Berry on Friday, March 7 at 2 p.m., which will also serve as the team’s senior day. Seniors being honored during the ceremony include Emma Schweizer, Lucy Metzler, Fallyn Belcastro, and Emmy Dolin.
