Tragic Horseback-Riding Accident Claims Life of Man in Washington County

A 48-year-old man died in a horseback-riding accident at Washington County Legacy Park. The man was riding on the racetrack when something spooked the horse, causing it to go through a PVC-pipe guardrail and the man to fall off. Medics attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is still under investigation by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a call for a “traumatic injury” at the fairgrounds. Deputy Joel Hafoka stated that the man was likely just practicing riding as there were no events taking place at the site. It is unclear if the horse potentially landed on or trampled the man, or if he had other injuries. The man’s identity has not been released as police continue to investigate the incident.

The tragic accident occurred at Washington County Legacy Park, with the man falling off the horse after it was spooked. The horse went through a PVC-pipe guardrail, causing the man to sustain fatal injuries. Medics were unable to save the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of death is still being determined by the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner.
