Meghan Rouns, a missing Montana horseback rider, was found dead in Upper Hauser Lake after disappearing on Friday. Her body was discovered in 11-feet deep water, and foul play is not suspected at this time. The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton is still conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Rouns went missing after taking a photo for social media on Friday afternoon. Her family reported her missing that night when they hadn’t heard from her. Her horse and cellphone were found during the search on Saturday. The sheriff’s rescue mission turned into a recovery effort on Monday.
Investigators are looking into the theory that Rouns may have fallen off her horse and into the water due to gusty winds in the area. The sheriff expressed gratitude for those who helped search for Rouns and provided comfort to her family during this tragic ordeal.
