Top Horse Showman Crowned at Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta

The Mid-Winter Fair and Fiesta kicked off with the horse showmanship event, where 25 contestants from 4-H and FFA clubs showcased their horses under the judgment of professional horse judge Danny Wooten. The classes included Novice 4-H Junior, won by Parker Sells, 4-H Junior won by Reagan Ashurst, and Senior 4-H won by Brently Ashurst. Chyenne Cox was the top pick in the FFA class and also qualified for Senior Master Showmanship.

The traditional Round Robin competition was replaced with Master Showmanship, where all 16 qualifiers showed the same animal in the same ring. The fair board member, Cherise Alford, explained that the fair would run for ten straight days with no time off, showcasing all species of animals. The event concluded with Murrie Plourd teaching young participants the art of showing horses using her horse, Promise, who eventually passed away but left a lasting legacy through the “A Special Promise Perpetual Trophy” awarded to the best showman, won by Chyenne Cox.

Chyenne Cox, who also holds the title of Brawley Cattle Call Queen, was awarded the Top Horse Showman-2025 at the Mid-Winter Fair. The event featured a mix of 4-H and FFA participants showcasing their horses and competing for top honors in various classes. The new fair practices included changes to the competition format, with winners qualifying for the Senior Master Showmanship and the opportunity to compete at the State Fair.
