A 23-member tourist group from Kerala, including a child, narrowly avoided a deadly terror attack near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in 26 fatalities. The group had initially planned to go horse-riding at the attack site but opted for a taxi to a different location due to high prices. As they traveled, they heard loud noises and witnessed chaos as people fled the area.
After being quickly returned to their hotel, the group learned through news reports just how close they had come to the attack. One member expressed that had they proceeded with their original plan, they could have been among the victims. This experience prompted them to voice concerns about the inadequate security measures at tourist sites, noting that while there were security forces on the roads, none were present at the actual locations where the attack occurred.
The group’s harrowing experience highlights the need for improved safety protocols in tourist areas, especially in regions prone to violence. Their close call serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by travelers in such environments.
