At the 54th annual Resolute Racing Eclipse Awards ceremony, Thorpedo Anna was named Horse of the Year after a successful 2024 campaign that included victories in races such as the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Owners Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks, and Magdalena Racing continue to race the filly under the direction of trainer Kenny McPeek. Thorpedo Anna became just the seventh female horse to win the award.
Sierra Leone was named the champion 3-year-old male after winning the Travers Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic. Jockey Flavien Prat and trainer Chad Brown also received Eclipse Awards for their performances in 2024. The Eclipse Awards ceremony also honored other champions, including Soul of an Angel and Straight No Chaser, who won awards for female sprinter and male sprinter, respectively.
Godolphin had a successful year, capturing multiple Eclipse titles and setting a record for the most Eclipse titles earned with 13 under the Godolphin and Darley banners since 2006. Other owners who campaigned multiple Eclipse winners in 2024 included SF Racing, Madaket Stables, and Starlight Racing. The ceremony also recognized media Eclipse Award winners, as well as Mike Gillum as the 2024 Horseplayer of the Year and Frank Taylor and the stable Recovery Program for their service to the Thoroughbred industry.
