Trainer Kenny McPeek expressed his confidence in Thorpedo Anna, a 3-year-old filly, back in January 2024, predicting she could be a champion. However, she exceeded expectations by winning the Horse of the Year vote with 193 votes, far surpassing her competitors.
Thorpedo Anna, purchased by McPeek for $40,000 in 2022, had an impressive year in 2024, winning multiple grade 1 contests including the Kentucky Oaks and the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. She demonstrated a strong disposition and high energy on race days, proving herself against both fillies and colts.
McPeek plans to continue racing Thorpedo Anna in 2025 and beyond, aiming to follow in the footsteps of iconic horses like Zenyatta by giving fans more opportunities to see her compete. Her success in 2024 has solidified her place as one of the sport’s greatest, with McPeek expressing his intention to continue racing her in the future.
