The Thoroughbred Racing Initiative, supported by OBS, is sponsoring a bus trip for members of the Thoroughbred community to travel to Tallahassee for the Florida Senate Committee hearing on the decoupling bill that threatens the racing and breeding industry, along with over 33,000 jobs and $3.24 billion in economic impact.
The bill in question would eliminate minimum racing requirements and funding for purse and breeder awards that were originally supported by Gulfstream Park when slots were approved in 2005. The bus trip is limited to 50 people and will depart from the OBS grounds at 11:30 a.m. ET on April 1, returning around 9:30 p.m.
The hearing on Senate Bill 408 will take place in Tallahassee on April 1, starting at 4 p.m. in the Pat Thomas Committee Room. Those interested in joining the bus trip can RSVP to Meg Miranda by noon on March 31. Additionally, individuals in Florida can sign a petition to urge the Florida Senate to vote against SB 408.
