Over the weekend, the bodies of three dogs were discovered dumped in a hole at a bog near Coole. The dogs had each been shot in the head, leading animal welfare managers to believe they were put down deliberately, rather than being shot by a farmer for sheep worrying.
The charity My Lovely Horse Rescue responded to the report of the bodies and found that the dogs were not chipped, making it difficult to identify their owners. The dogs appeared to be young, with one potentially being a lurcher and the others terrier mixes. The bodies were eventually taken by another rescue organization for disposal.
While it is not the first time that dead animals have been found dumped in the bog, it is the first time that it appears the animals had been shot. My Lovely Horse Rescue, which cares for a variety of animals, including dogs, pigs, and goats, expressed sadness at the cruel treatment of the dogs and emphasized that there are resources available for those struggling to care for their pets.
