A tragic incident occurred involving the death of a much-loved Shetland pony named Reggie, who passed away after being fed chestnuts by a member of the public despite signs asking not to feed him. The owner, Zoe Mullins, described the heartbreaking scene of Reggie struggling to breathe and collapsing in her partner’s arms. The incident left Zoe’s children screaming, and despite the pleas for help, no one offered assistance, leading to the devastating loss of the pony.

The horse world also mourns the passing of Anthony Steward, an 85-year-old horseman and gentleman who was known for his skills in riding show ponies and showjumpers. Mentored by his father, Anthony rode with various Leicestershire packs and was involved in hunting with the Fernie and Woodland Pytchley.
