The Paws Cause: How Ruth Ellen Raised $60,000 for Dog Rescue & Adoption

Ruth Ellen started The Paws Cause six years ago after purchasing Maasai dog collars in Kenya and selling them to raise money for dog rescue. The project has now raised $60,000 for dog rescues and adoptions, with all proceeds going to the rescue of the customer’s choice. The collars are hand-beaded by Maasai women, providing them with much-needed business.

The collars and leashes feature vibrant Maasai colors and designs, with each woman creating a unique piece of work. Customers can also order custom collars and leashes, and return used collars for a discount on a new one. Ruth Ellen’s motivation for the project comes from her love of dogs and desire to make a difference for the Maasai women. She credits the success of The Paws Cause to the generosity of the horse show community.

Ruth Ellen’s passion for dogs is evident in her own family, which includes three shelter dogs. She emphasizes the importance of supporting local rescues and shelters through The Paws Cause. The project not only benefits dogs in need but also provides business opportunities for the Maasai women, creating a positive impact on both ends.
