The National Western Stock Show: A Denver Tradition Since 1906

The National Western Stock Show in Denver has been a tradition since 1906, attracting nearly 700,000 participants and attendees from around the world each year. The event features 30 rodeos, 11 horse shows, and other attractions. The Junior Livestock Auction is a highlight, with bids reaching as high as $200,000 for animals raised by youths aged 9 to 19.

Despite freezing temperatures, over 670,000 people attended the 2024 show, with a record-breaking 60,000 on the first day. The event is an important piece of Denver’s history and showcases the western United States’ foundational industries. Wheat Ridge City Councilor Amanda Weaver, a ranch owner, emphasizes the opportunity to connect with fellow farmers and ranchers at the show.

Weaver encourages people to give the stock show a chance, even if they are not interested in ranching or animals. The event offers a variety of attractions, including pro rodeo and national fiddle championships. Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of the show, with around 1,000 volunteers needed each year. Interested individuals can sign up for volunteer opportunities on the National Western Stock Show website.
