The Heartwarming Story of Chief: From Abandoned to Adopted

Eley and Sherrie E. have a deep love for horses, considering them to be family. They recently adopted King, a 3-year-old blue roan, and Chief, a 9-year-old bay-roan, from the ASPCA’s Equine Adoption and Transition Center. Chief had a difficult past, being abandoned and suspected of abuse, but Eley and Sherrie promised to give him a good home with meticulous care and love.

Chief was diagnosed with equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) and treated for several health concerns, including ulcers and fly-bite allergies. Despite being wary of humans and sensitive to sound, Chief has adjusted well in his new home with Eley and Sherrie. He has made friends with Sky, Roany, and Elvis, as well as Eley’s grandson Trey.

Eley and Sherrie have a total of five horses, three donkeys, two Highland cows, and a calf on their nine-acre property. Both King and Chief have gained weight since their adoptions, and Chief’s best friend is Eley’s grandson Trey. Eley and Sherrie have no regrets about adding Chief to their family and are committed to providing a loving home for their horses.
