Ashley Herman, the director and owner of Sonoma Horse Park, has created a space where philanthropy and passion for horses come together. The park is home to Giant Steps Therapeutic Riding, reflecting Ashley’s commitment to giving back through equine-assisted therapy. Ashley’s dedication to the sport of equestrianism began in her youth, culminating in a successful junior riding career before taking a break to pursue other opportunities.
After a 10-year break from riding, Ashley returned to Sonoma Horse Park at the suggestion of her father, who had purchased and expanded the facility. Under Ashley’s leadership, the park has become a premier boarding and show venue, hosting events like the Giant Steps Charity Classic. Ashley’s event-planning expertise has helped raise funds for Giant Steps, ensuring the center’s continued operation and growth.
Ashley remains actively involved with Giant Steps, helping to raise awareness and diversify funding for the organization. She values the impact that Giant Steps has on its riders and their families, and cherishes moments like a rider with cerebral palsy singing the national anthem at the charity classic. Ashley sees Giant Steps as the most meaningful aspect of the shows at Sonoma Horse Park, striving to make each event special and supportive of the center’s mission.
