Katie Wood launched The Equestrian Physio in January 2023 to provide physiotherapy and performance services for both horseback riders and their horses. As a registered physiotherapist and equine rehab therapist, Wood aims to bridge the gap in equestrian sport by treating riders as athletes and emphasizing the importance of proper training and care for both the rider and the horse.
Wood, a lifelong horseback rider, initially wanted to be a vet but shifted to physiotherapy after a car accident. She realized the lack of foundational training in equestrian sport and decided to offer one-on-one consultations, equine rehab, and equestrian physio services through her business. Wood’s approach combines physiotherapy with the unique needs of equestrians to address mobility, strength, and body awareness demands.
The Equestrian Physio focuses on treating acute and chronic injuries in riders, as well as tendon and post-surgical rehab in horses. Wood emphasizes the connection between the rider and the horse, noting that restrictions in one can impact the other. By educating riders on basic rehab principles and encouraging critical evaluation of treatments, Wood aims to help equestrians understand and improve the care they provide to themselves and their animals.
