Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum acquired three tracts near the Aiken Training Track in 2008 but shut down the Aiken operation in 2015. Sayyu Dantata, a Nigerian oil tycoon, owns a nearly 100-acre farm in Aiken and sponsors a polo team called SD Farms. Andrey Borodin, a Russian oligarch and avid polo player, owns a property just outside of Aiken and sponsors polo teams in Florida.

David Meunier, a polo player and real estate investor, opened a French restaurant and bakery in Aiken in 2020 and also owns a polo club in the area. Robert McNair, owner of the NFL’s Houston Texans, founded Stonerside stable in Aiken in 1994 but sold the thoroughbred operations in 2008 to Sheikh Mohammed in order to focus on the NFL franchise. McNair passed away in 2018.
