The Cowboys of Toledo: Keeping the Tradition Alive with Brownstone Stable

In Toledo, the urban legend of cowboys riding through the city on horseback is actually a reality. Brothers Carlton and Chris Brown are part of the Toledo Horsemen’s Club and ride their horses through the city, even parking them outside of restaurants and bars. They aim to share their love of horseback riding with the community and offer lessons and opportunities for people to experience it firsthand.

The Brown brothers grew up taking care of horses and learned the sport from their father, Calvin Brown. They are part of a new generation of horsemen in Toledo who are keeping the tradition alive. Carlton launched Brownstone stable to continue the work of the Toledo Horsemen’s Club and provide access to horseback riding for the community.

The stable has four horses and offers lessons and opportunities for people to experience horseback riding. The family aims to show the people of Toledo that there is more to the city than just concrete, and they encourage anyone interested in lessons or booking the horses for an event to reach out to Brownstone stable through their website.
