No. 5 Texas A&M equestrian team faced off against No. 7 South Carolina in the SEC Championship Final, ultimately losing 11-8 to the Gamecocks. The Fightin’ Farmers started strong in the Fences competition, winning 3-2 with impressive performances from Devon Thomas, Alexa Leong, and Alida Treuting. However, South Carolina bounced back in the Flat discipline, securing a 3-2 victory despite efforts from Maggie Nealon and Thomas to earn points for A&M.
The Gamecocks continued to dominate in the Horsemanship discipline, adding three more points to their lead. A&M managed to win two points in this discipline, but it was not enough to overcome South Carolina’s advantage. In the Reining discipline, the Gamecocks sealed their victory with a 3-1 win, with Chloe Stephenson, Chloe VanStone, and Mattilyn McNeill leading the charge for South Carolina.
Overall, the Aggies lost 6-3 in the Western Seat and 11-8 in the SEC Championship Final. Despite the loss, A&M will travel to the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida to compete in the NCEA Championship from April 17-19.
