Susan “Sue” Hobson has decided to step down as the dressage Discipline Chair for the New Zealand Equestrian Federation (ESNZ) in order to focus on judging nationally and internationally, as well as continuing her role as a liaison for Horse Sport Technology (AUS) and organizing Oceania judges online education. Despite stepping down, Sue’s passion for the sport remains strong, and the dressage NZ Board and members wish her well in her future endeavors.
Sue’s involvement in dressage and ESNZ has spanned over four decades, during which she represented New Zealand in Australia at Grand Prix level and in FEI dressage World Challenge teams. She has also been actively involved in dressage governance and management, serving in various roles such as Finance Officer, Judges Officer, and Chair, as well as being an FEI 4* International Judge. Alongside her husband Brian, Sue has sponsored dressage events for thirty-three years through their company Hobson Horsecoaches.
Sarah Hazlewood, the Vice Chair and Finance Officer, has taken on the role of Acting Chair until a new Chair is elected at the conference in June 2025. Sue’s contributions to dressage and ESNZ have been significant, and her dedication to the sport will be remembered as she transitions to a new chapter in her involvement.
