Recent Curragh maiden winner Dupont Law (Ire) (Le Havre {Ire}) has been sold to continue his career abroad, with handler Ciaran Murphy explaining that such sales are necessary to survive in the training ranks in Ireland. The horse was split three ways between Murphy, bloodstock agent Ross Doyle, and owner William Drew, who saw his red and white silks carried to victory in the Curragh maiden last month. The sale of Dupont Law was a financial windfall for Murphy’s stable in Mullingar, helping to keep the operation afloat.
Dupont Law was acquired for €37,000 during the Goffs Orby Sale and sold for a much higher figure to Bloodstock agent Mark McStay on behalf of American clients. The sale represents a successful partnership between Murphy and Doyle, who have done business together for several years. Murphy’s ability to spot talent at sales, along with Doyle’s expertise in the bloodstock market, has led to successful transactions and high-quality horses.
While Murphy’s stable was previously focused on National Hunt horses, there has been a shift towards more Flat runners in recent years. The sale of Dupont Law will provide a financial boost to the operation, allowing for continued growth in the Flat side of the business. Murphy remains cautious financially, but hopes to continue acquiring quality horses to develop and sell in the future.
