Sterling Silver, trained by Bill Mott and ridden by Javier Castellano, won the $125,000 Biogio’s Rose at Aqueduct Racetrack, pushing her career earnings over $1 million. The 6-year-old Cupid gray has now won five stakes races in her 29-race career, showing consistency and class in her performances.
Despite settling off the pace early in the race, Sterling Silver made a strong move in the stretch to overtake the leaders and win by 1 3/4 lengths. Castellano praised the mare’s ability to respond when asked and her professionalism on the track. The victory was a result of a well-timed ride and a strong finishing kick.
Trainer Paul Barrow and jockey Lane Luzzi, who rode Sweet Brown Sugar to a second-place finish, both acknowledged Sterling Silver’s class and ability to win the race. The mare, bred by Mallory Mort and Karen Mort, was a $13,000 purchase and has shown her worth on the track with consistent performances and a strong finishing kick.
