Rule Refresher: Extraordinary Rule Changes Effective April 1, 2025

In the upcoming months, six extraordinary rule changes will be implemented by USEF, with five of them falling under General Rules and one specific to Eventing Division. These changes include restrictions on Shock Wave Therapy administration, possession of injectable substances, cooperation with investigations, use of biometric sensors, noseband regulations, and guidelines for whip use in eventing. Members can submit rule change proposals through their online member account.

GR 414 limits Shock Wave Therapy administration to licensed veterinarians on competition grounds, while GR 414.8 prohibits possession of certain injectable substances without proper labeling and rectal administration of substances on competition grounds. GR 702.1 identifies failure to cooperate with investigations as a violation, and GR 801.6 allows the use of biometric sensors meeting specific criteria. GR 839.1 prohibits abrasive nosebands, except for rope and rawhide, and EV112.3 outlines proper whip use in eventing.

It is crucial for participants in equestrian sports to stay informed about rule changes, as they play a significant role in ensuring the safety and fairness of competitions. Members can access detailed information on these rule changes through the USEF website and are encouraged to submit any proposed rule changes through their member account.
