Road to Recovery: Surviving Horses from Southwest Philly Stable Fire Healing with Help from PSPCA

A devastating stable fire in Southwest Philadelphia claimed the lives of two horses, with the surviving horses now on the road to recovery. The fire took place on the 5800 block of Lindberg Ave, with fire crews quickly placing the flames under control. The “pop-up stables” that burned were not registered with the city, according to ACCT Philly’s Sarah Barnett.

The Pennsylvania SPCA’s Animal Law Enforcement team rescued 12 surviving horses from the property after the fire, with three horses needing to be sent to a special center for critical injuries. The rescued horses are being monitored for smoke inhalation effects and are on refeeding plans to gain weight. A pig and a goat were also rescued by ACCT Philly, and fire officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire.

The PSPCA is asking for anyone with ownership information about the horses or who wants to donate towards their care to contact their Animal Cruelty hotline. Donations can also be made on the PSPCA’s website to support the rescue and care of the 12 horses affected by the fire.
