Revitalizing the Incheon Dream Park Equestrian Venue: From Neglect to Theme Park with Aquarium

The Incheon Dream Park Equestrian Venue, which has been neglected since the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, will be transformed into a theme park with an aquarium by Hanwha Hotel & Resort. The venue, located in the Seoul metropolitan area landfill, will be remodeled to create the nation’s first theme park facility incorporating an aquarium, in line with the image of ‘Ocean City Incheon’. The project is expected to revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life of nearby residents.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government hopes that the construction of cultural, tourism, and recreational facilities at the Incheon Dream Park Equestrian Venue will help change negative perceptions about the Seoul metropolitan area landfill. The project plan is expected to be finalized by the end of the year and completed by 2027 in consultation with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Environment and Seoul Metropolitan Government. Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok emphasized the significance of revitalizing the venue and finding ways to use the landfill in the future.

The metropolitan area landfill in Incheon, consisting of four landfill sites, has been in use since 1992 due to the lack of alternative landfill options. The horseback riding site, located inside the Dream Park Wildflower Complex, is part of the landfill and will be developed into a theme park with an aquarium. Previous uses of the landfill include a 36-hole golf course and the venue for the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.
