Rescued Horses at Willow Hope Farm in Shelby County Show Signs of Rehabilitation

The Kentucky Humane Society’s equine program has recently rescued two groups of 10 or more horses, including the ‘Franklin 13’ from Franklin County and 10 horses from eastern Kentucky. The horses are being rehabilitated at Willow Hope Farm in Shelby County, with one stallion named Victor requiring special care at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital due to his severe neglect.

Victor, one of the ‘Franklin 13’ horses, had to be lifted in a sling every day until he was healthy enough to return to the farm. Despite his current thin and weak state, he is described as having a big personality and being a little sassy. The Kentucky Humane Society is dedicated to rehabilitating and training these horses with the ultimate goal of finding them new homes through adoption.

The rescue of the ‘Franklin 13′ drew attention due to the presence of a former Breeder’s Cup horse named War Envoy. The publicity surrounding this case has helped to fundraise for the horses’ care, including Victor whose vet bill has exceeded $10,000. The Kentucky Humane Society is grateful for the support and encourages those interested in volunteering, donating, or adopting to visit their website for more information.
