Rescue of Underweight Seal Pup Named Wide Awake in Guernsey

A seal pup named Wide Awake was rescued in Guernsey after being found severely underweight and dehydrated at Moulin Huet. The pup, weighing only 22kg, was also aggressive towards rescuers, which was seen as a positive sign by Geoff George, head of marine mammals at the GSPCA.

Wide Awake will be joining three other rescued seal pups, Dark Horse, Swish, and Fireworks, who are also in need of 24-hour care. The pup will receive the necessary treatment and care to help it recover from its malnourished and exhausted state.

The rescue of Wide Awake highlights the importance of monitoring and protecting marine wildlife, as well as the dedication of organizations like the GSPCA in providing care for injured or distressed animals. The hope is that with proper care and attention, Wide Awake and the other rescued pups will be able to recover and eventually be released back into the wild.
