Remembering Patrice Wolfson: The Legacy of Affirmed and Harbor View Farm

Patrice Wolfson, who bred and owned the famous racehorse Affirmed, passed away in Bal Harbour, Fla. Affirmed won the Triple Crown in 1978 and was inducted into the racing Hall of Fame in 1980. Wolfson and her husband Louis also owned Harbor View Farm in Ocala, Fla., where they bred and owned other successful racehorses like Flawlessly.

Affirmed had a successful racing career, retiring with a record of 29: 22-5-1 and earnings of $2,383,818. Wolfson, the daughter of trainer Hirsch Jacobs, continued to breed and race horses even after selling Harbor View Farm in 1977. She was known for her love of Affirmed and her dedication to the sport of horse racing.

Steve Cauthen, who rode Affirmed to his Triple Crown victories, praised Wolfson as a great horsewoman and a wonderful lady. Wolfson’s relationship with Affirmed was a central part of her 35-year marriage to Louis Wolfson, and she wrote about the special bond they shared with the horse in a 2008 column for BloodHorse.
