Remembering Papa Clem: A Graded Stakes Winner’s Legacy

Papa Clem, a multiple graded stakes winner, passed away at the age of 19 in Turkey, where he had been standing as a stud. Bred and raced by Bo Hirsch, Papa Clem had a successful racing career, winning races such as the Arkansas Derby and finishing fourth in the Kentucky Derby.

After a successful racing career, Papa Clem was retired due to an injury and stood at stud in California before being sold and relocated to Turkey. Throughout his stud career, he sired 164 winners, including 12 black-type winners worldwide. Some of his notable offspring include Cordiality and Turkish stakes winners Zolo Muum and Jefe De Jefes.

Papa Clem’s legacy as a successful racehorse and sire continues on through his offspring, with his last foals being 2-year-olds. Despite his passing, his impact on the racing world lives on through the achievements of his progeny.
