Jeanette Tosta Carey passed away on January 27, 2025, after a two-year battle with multiple medical issues. She was born in Turlock in 1949 and grew up on a ranch in Crows Landing, where she developed a love for horses and country life. She graduated from Orestimba High School in 1967 and later worked as a Student Service Secretary at Merced School District until her retirement in 2010.
Jeanette married Bruce Carey and had twin sons, Lance and Stacey. Despite losing Lance at birth, she remained close to both boys and continued to cherish their memory. She was an active member of the Merced community, participating in various organizations such as Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Post 83, and Merced Parks and Recreation Board.
Jeanette’s dedication to her job at Golden Valley High School was evident through the numerous awards and recognitions she received over the years. She was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in January 2024 and was known for her kindness, support, and love towards all students. Jeanette is survived by her sister, niece, and will be remembered at a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
