Allan Fitzgerald, a respected horseman in the Australian racing industry, passed away at the age of 62 after battling cancer. Starting as a successful lightweight jockey, he rode for the Freyer family for over a decade and won multiple races, including the Albury and Wagga Cups. In the late 1990s, Fitzgerald transitioned into training near Wangaratta, remaining active in the industry despite health challenges.

Fitzgerald’s final runner, O’reg, finished second at Berrigan in March 2024, and his last winner was Time Angel at Wagga in July 2024. Despite his illness, he continued to train with the support of his family, including his wife Jen and their four children. Fitzgerald’s legacy as a dedicated family man and successful trainer and jockey will live on in the racing community.
