Trainer Kenny McPeek described the anticipation for Rattle N Roll’s first start since the Clark Stakes as intense, comparing it to sitting on a keg of dynamite. Finally, on Jan. 25, Rattle N Roll competed in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup and won impressively by 4 3/4 lengths.
Rattle N Roll, ridden by Joel Rosario, raced near the rear of the 20-horse field before picking off rivals around the far turn and taking command with a furlong to go. The victory in the local group 1 race served as an automatic qualifier for the $20 million Saudi Cup, which will be held at the same course and distance on Feb. 22.
McPeek explained that the decision to send Rattle N Roll to the Middle East early was to secure a spot in the Saudi Cup, as it was not guaranteed unless he won a qualifying race. The horse’s running style is better suited for the track in Saudi Arabia, and the lease of Rattle N Roll by Saudi businessman Sharaf Mohammed Al Hariri will cover three races in the Middle East, including the Saudi Cup and Dubai World Cup.
