Raising Awareness: The Tragic Loss of Two Equine Companions

Laura Pache tragically lost her two horses, Pops and Nabs, to atypical myopathy, also known as sycamore poisoning, despite her efforts to prevent it by removing sycamore seeds from their grazing fields. The horses died within 10 minutes of each other in early January, raising awareness of the danger of this condition even in the winter months when it is commonly believed to be safe.

Domini Morgan, a pioneer of British dressage and the oldest living British Olympian until her passing at the age of 99, was celebrated for her contributions to the sport. She was part of the all-women team that came fifth in the team event at the 1968 Olympics, marking a significant step forward for British dressage. Domini later became a renowned international dressage judge.

Horse welfare charity HAPPA recently took in two abandoned cobs, Maximus and Bruno, who were left behind by their owners on rented land. This case highlights the increase in horse abandonments, with the charity noting that the landowners struggled to meet the horses’ needs after the owners disappeared. This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible horse ownership and the need for proper care and attention to prevent such cases of neglect.
