Previewing the 2025 Maker’s Mark Mile: Top Contenders and Speed Figures

The Grade 1 Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland is a prestigious race for top turf horses, with past winners including champions like Wise Dan and War of Will. The 2025 edition features a field of nine 4-year-olds and up, with contenders like Carl Spackler, Integration, and Seminole Chief. Carl Spackler, trained by Chad Brown, is looking to follow up his successful 4-year-old season with a win in this race.

Integration, trained by Shug McGaughey, is coming into the Maker’s Mark Mile off a runner-up finish in the Pegasus World Cup Turf and is looking to improve on his third-place finish in last year’s race. Seminole Chief, trained by Jack Sisterson, is the only contender entering the race off a last-out win and has shown improvement on turf after trying the Derby trail as a 3-year-old.

The pace for the Maker’s Mark Mile is expected to be swift, with several horses likely to be pressing the lead. Horses who can track mid-pack and have a strong closing kick may have an advantage in this race. The top speed figures for the entrants in the race over the past year show Carl Spackler with the fastest figures, followed closely by Integration and Funtastic Again.
