President Trump’s Executive Order has granted the horse industry a 60-day reprieve from the revised Horse Protection Act (HPA), which was set to expand regulations on all horse breeds and events starting February 1, 2025. Attorneys are already working to ensure that the revised HPA does not get implemented.
Western Justice is working with the Trump administration to ensure that all voices are heard in regards to the HPA. The Executive Order will stop the revised HPA for at least 60 days, giving stakeholders time to advocate against the new regulations that prohibit substances or practices causing pain, distress, or lameness in horses.
The focus now is on preventing the implementation of the revised HPA altogether. The horse industry will need to continue engaging with the Trump administration and advocating for their interests to ensure that the regulations do not harm the industry or the well-being of the horses involved.
