Preparing for a Future with Retired Broodmares: Mareworthy Academy Launches to Educate and Support

Mareworthy Charities is launching a free academy on Jan. 23 to help prepare individuals interested in rehoming retired broodmares, regardless of horse experience. The academy aims to remove barriers such as financial concerns and the belief that owning a horse is too much work. The goal is to increase the demand for retired broodmares through education and hands-on experience.

The academy offers non-traditional lessons that combine hands-on experience with virtual Google Meet calls, making it accessible to individuals across the country. The focus is on educating the general public about rehoming retired broodmares and working with big farms and landowners to provide a safe haven for these horses. The charity also aims to tackle upstream issues to prevent broodmares from ending up in dire situations.

Mareworthy Charities, founded by Kyle Rothfus and Sean Smith, is focused on protecting and rehoming retired broodmares. The organization has seen 20 outcomes over the past year, including adoptions and a dignified euthanasia. The academy will have multiple classes throughout 2025, with the first one starting on Jan. 23 and open to anyone with a reliable internet connection and an open mind.
