Passing Down the Tradition: The Krull Family’s Legacy in Clay County’s 4-H Shooting Sports

The Krull family of Harvard has been involved in Clay County’s 4-H Shooting Sports since 1991, passing down the tradition to upcoming generations. Starting with horses, the family has a long history of involvement in 4-H, including showing horses and participating in various activities. The family has been dedicated to the program for years, with Burnell and Debbie serving as leaders and their children, Dan and Dawn, also becoming certified leaders.

The Marksmen Club, started by Chuck Burr about 40 years ago, is what shooting sports became in the area, with the Krull family being involved almost since the beginning. The family’s dedication to shooting sports has been passed down to the current generation, with Dan and Dawn’s daughter, Milayna, competing for the third year. The program has grown significantly over the years, with more kids participating and changes in the way competitions are held.

Kids in the program practice for five weeks and then compete during the sixth week, with different age categories for competition. The leaders work with the kids on proper techniques and safety measures, helping them become skilled shooters. The 4-H Council and fair board have been supportive of the program, and the family appreciates the opportunity to teach kids about gun and archery safety through the program.
