Michael Gorham, a trainer with a background in horse racing, is preparing Omaha Omaha, a Virginia-bred colt, for the Virginia Derby. The Virginia Derby will now serve as a qualifying race for the Kentucky Derby, with the winner earning 50 Kentucky Derby points. Omaha Omaha, known for his strong finishes, has earned 11 points in previous qualifying races and has a strong pedigree, including 1985 Kentucky Derby winner Spend A Buck.
Gorham is optimistic about Omaha Omaha’s chances, noting that the horse performs well in competition and has a history of coming from behind to win races. The Virginia Derby will take place on March 15 at Colonial Downs, with gates opening at 10:30 am and the first post time at noon. General admission tickets are $5 and must be purchased in advance.
If Omaha Omaha can replicate his past performances and secure a win at the Virginia Derby, he and Gorham could be on their way to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby. Gorham sees the potential in Omaha Omaha’s Virginia lineage and is excited about the opportunity to compete at such a prestigious event.
