Nepotism Shines in Champagne Stakes Victory: Another Stallion Prospect for Hawkes Team

Nepotism, a son of Brutal, captured his first group 1 victory in the Champagne Stakes at Randwick, becoming the first elite-level winner for his sire. The colt, trained by the Hawkes team, entered the Randwick straight in last place but unleashed a late run to win by 0.13 lengths. Nepotism’s impressive performance backed up his last-start win in the Baillieu Stakes at Rosehill.

Nepotism comes from an illustrious family, being a half-brother to Black Caviar and related to other group 1 winners. The colt’s win in the Champagne Stakes solidified his status as a valuable prospect. Co-owner Neil Werrett, who also co-owned Black Caviar, has ties to Nepotism. The Hawkes team is known for producing successful colts, and Nepotism’s performance further cements their reputation.

In another race at Randwick, Jimmysstar won the All Aged Stakes, adding to his group 1 tally after previously winning the Oakleigh Plate. Trained by Ciaron Maher, Jimmysstar came home strongly to win the race, beating Joliestar by 0.6 lengths. Maher expressed his excitement about Jimmysstar’s performance and revealed that the AU$20 million The Everest would be a target for the gelding.
