Alan Greeff’s Fire Away gelding My Best Shot won the R250,000 Bryanston Auctioneers Listed East Cape Guineas at Fairview, making it four wins in a row. The horse is now a strong contender for the 2025 Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Sophomore Challenge. My Best Shot, ridden by Richard Fourie, looks set to dominate the R350,000 World Sports Betting Listed East Cape Derby on May 9 and could secure the R250,000 ‘Triple Crown’ bonus.
The victory by My Best Shot, who has now won eight out of 14 starts, brought his earnings to R631,725. Bred by Varsfontein Stud, the son of War Front stallion Fire Away was purchased for R120,000 at the 2023 Cape Yearling Sale. Fire Away, the sire of My Best Shot, has been performing well recently, with his offspring achieving success in various races.
In addition to My Best Shot’s win, Richard Fourie and Alan Greeff had a successful day at the races, winning four out of the eight races on the card. The victory by My Best Shot was part of a feature double for the Greeff-Fourie combination, with the pair also having won the East Cape Sprint Cup last year with Fairy Knight.
