SaddleSnaps offers guided moonlit horseback rides in northern Illinois, providing a unique way to enjoy the beautiful nights in the Prairie State. Founded by Carol Cronin, SaddleSnaps operates in cooperation with Millbrook Trail Rides in Newark, offering riders the opportunity to experience the landscape under the moon and stars.
The inspiration for moonlight rides came from a group of riders who found the experience magical, leading Cronin to pitch the idea to MTR. Since the first moonlight ride in 2022, hundreds of riders have enjoyed the experience, with monthly rides scheduled between April and October, along with additional events like square dances and chili suppers.
On a typical moonlight ride, guests set out just before sunset to enjoy the countryside, guided by glowsticks on the horses. After the ride, guests can enjoy a bonfire with s’mores and even Tarot or Oracle readings. Moonlight rides are beginner-friendly but not recommended for first-time riders, with participants needing at least five hours of riding experience and being at least 14 years old.
