A month-long horse fair began in Joypurhat, attracting visitors of all ages for horse trading, cultural activities, and entertainment. The fair, which has been held for 516 years, features not only horses but also buffaloes, cows, sheep, and goats. Horse traders from various districts of the country gather at the fair, with prices for horses reaching up to Taka 2.5 lakh.
The fair includes activities such as puppet shows, games, circus rides, and musical performances by local artists. Visitors enjoy watching the performance of horses like the ‘Dulki horse’ that can cover miles in the blink of an eye. Some foreign horse riders also participated in the fair this year, showcasing advanced breeds from Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, and other Middle Eastern countries.
Despite facing challenges such as a lack of large racing space, organizers are working to make the fair more attractive by arranging horse races. The fair committee president highlighted that although it is primarily a horse fair, it offers all the arrangements of a rural fair. Adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order during the fair, with Ansar members and police deployed for assistance.
