The MBVV police have issued a warning against illegal horse-cart racing ahead of the Saint Jerome Church Feast Day in Kashimira on December 26. Those found participating in these races will face stern action under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, as the races create chaos on roads and endanger lives while also causing harm to the horses involved.
After Christmas Day on December 25, thousands of devotees from coastal areas flock to the St. Jerome Church in Kashigaon to participate in the feast day on December 26. The parish conducts multi-lingual masses starting at 6 a.m. and continuing until 1 p.m., with devotees paying homage to the saint until midnight. This tradition has been ongoing for decades.
In response to previous incidents of illegal horse-cart racing, the police have deployed additional personnel to maintain law and order in the twin-city area between December 25, 2024 and January 1, 2025. This includes officers, security guards, Riot Control Police, and traffic department personnel to prevent untoward incidents and drunk-driving cases, with road blockades set up at 29 strategic locations.
