Terry Finley of West Point Thoroughbreds, in partnership with Spendthrift Farm and St. Elias stable, secured a colt by Tiz the Law for $1.5 million at the OBS spring 2-year-olds in training sale. The colt, out of the mare Georgian Dancer, was consigned by Steven Venosa of S G V Thoroughbreds, who also sold a Gun Runner colt for $1.45 million during the same week. Venosa credits his team for the success and is excited about the home the Tiz the Law colt is going to.
The OBS April sale saw a total gross of $88,761,500 from 637 horses sold, an increase from the previous year. The average price of $139,343 set a new record, while the median price declined slightly. The demand for offspring by Tiz the Law was evident throughout the sale, with a bay colt by the stallion selling for $850,000 to Flatland Racing Stables. The sale also featured other high-priced horses, including a Quality Road colt and a City of Light filly.
The sale concluded with the retirement of longtime consignor Eddie Woods, who sent his final horse through the ring before retiring. The son of Twirling Candy sold for $560,000 to Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners & Sabby Racing, providing Woods with a fitting sendoff. Woods, who had previously sold a Gun Runner colt for a record $3 million, reflected on his time at OBS and his contributions to the development of the auction.
