Local Council Threatens to Seize Rescued Farm Animals from Grandmother’s Backyard

Christina Druery-Chiconi is facing the threat of having her rescued farm animals taken away by the local council due to a breach of local laws limiting the number of stock animals allowed on her property. The council has issued fines and warnings, stating that compliance costs to keep all the animals would be around $21,000, which she cannot afford.

Despite the threat of losing her animals, Druery-Chiconi has opened her farm to families in the neighborhood, including children with autism, trauma, and speech impediments. The animals provide comfort and therapy to these children, and the community supports Druery-Chiconi, stating that the animals are well looked after and the council’s rules are too inflexible.

The City of Moreton Bay spokesperson stated that Druery-Chiconi would need to follow a development application process, including paying fees and hiring consultants, in order to keep all her animals. The community believes that the animals are well cared for and that the council should consider each case individually rather than enforcing blanket rules.
