Living the Dressage Dream: Catching Up With Brittney Simpson

Brittney Simpson, based in British Columbia, has found success in the FEI World Cup dressage standings, currently ranked fifth in the North American League and fourth among Canadians in the overall World Rankings. Her journey in the equestrian world began with experiences in 4-H and Standardbred racehorses, leading her to develop a passion for dressage at a young age.

Simpson’s path to the FEI ring started at 17 when she purchased a warmblood named Azaria, eventually competing at the FEI Young Riders level. She now coaches young FEI riders and works with them to develop their horses, while also aiming for the World Cup with her Grand Prix horse, Gio. Living in British Columbia presents challenges due to limited CDIs in the province and the need for extensive travel to compete at higher levels.

Simpson’s short-term goals include qualifying for the CDI-W and the US Equestrian Open, as well as making the shortlist for Team Canada. Long-term, she aims to represent Canada at a major international event. She also coaches six students aiming for the North American Youth Championship, with a focus on preparing them for success and providing them with a positive experience in the sport.
