Kelly Layne Declares for the U.S.A. – A New Chapter in Olympic Dressage

Kelly Layne, an Australian Olympic dressage team rider, officially switched to representing the U.S.A. on February 20, 2025. Layne first represented Team Australia in 2006 at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen but has faced challenges with various horses over the years, including health issues and eliminations from competitions. She competed for Australia at the Nations Cup CDIO’s in Wellington and served as chef d’equipe for the Australian team at the 2025 CDIO Wellington.

Layne’s decision to switch to the U.S.A. was influenced by the country’s pipeline programs, development programs, and opportunities for coaching and training. She expressed interest in being part of the grants, pipeline, and development programs in the U.S.A., as well as contributing her experience as a team member of Australia to young horse and young rider programs. Layne and her family have been based in the U.S.A. since 2007, initially in Colorado before relocating to Florida, where she actively trains and competes with multiple horses.

In an interview with dressage-News, Layne discussed her reasons for declaring for the U.S.A. and her excitement for the future of dressage in the country. She highlighted her desire to be part of coaching and training programs, as well as her interest in applying for coaching positions. Layne believes she has valuable experience to offer and is looking forward to being involved in the development of young riders and horses in the U.S.A.
